Book your training slots in one single phone call
DSA’s telephone booking service has just been updated.
From Monday 2 August, if you’re an approved training body (ATB) booking motorcycle manoeuvring area (MMA) training slots taking place on or after 23 August, these will be processed and confirmed within one single call to DSA’s customer service centre.
To do this call 0300 200 1122 and then dial ‘27’ to be put through to the fast track option.
We’ll now no longer be operating the call back system for MMA bookings, so training slots will only be available on a first come, first served basis.
Once you’ve booked, if you’re unable to make the training slot appointment on the day, please contact Europa on 0870 245 8037 to let them know.
Vauxhall Corsa vehicle recall
Following a vehicle recall notice issued by Vauxhall, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has announced conditions for allowing Vauxhall Corsa D models on the driving test.
This applies to all Vauxhall Corsa D vehicles with registration plates with a ‘59’ or ‘10’ year identifier.
For these vehicles, there is a possibility that the handbrake cable end fitting could move within the supporting bracket welded to the under body of the vehicle. If this fault occurs, it might lead to a sudden loss of handbrake function at any time.
If you want to use one of these vehicles for your driving test, it will only go ahead if:
· the vehicle is fitted with dual controls - this is to help the examiner control the car in the unlikely event of a failure
or
· if you supply documents to show that remedial work has been carried out – this will usually be in the form of the Vauxhall recall letter stamped by the dealer and containing written confirmation that the remedial work has been carried out
If none of these criteria are met, you’ll need to contact customer services to arrange for your test to be rebooked once the remedial work has been completed.
As there’s been no prior warning of this action, customers will have their test fee refunded or will be given a free retest only on the first occasion that they bring an affected vehicle for their test.
Space-saver tyres and driving tests
DSA is getting increasing numbers of complaints from candidates whose test didn’t go ahead because of problems with car tyres.
It’s become a common feature of modern cars to be fitted with a spare tyre or space-saver tyre which is a different size in order to save room and weight
DSA would like to remind driving instructors that any vehicle presented for test must be fitted with:
- the same size tyre on the same axle
- tyres that are not subject to speed restrictions
If any tyre is not suitable for the test, the test will not go ahead and the candidate will lose their test fee.
